I found myself venturing around Union Square yesterday while on my way to meet my husband for dinner. A little turned around, I consulted my phone’s Maps app to properly direct me to the restaurant. As I peered at the map, I noticed that I was standing in front of Kellogg’s NYC just off of the park on 17th Street in Union Square. I laughed to myself because I just posted earlier this week about Kellogg’s NYC new milkshake collaboration with ice cream purveyor Ample Hills Creamery. Could this be the same place? The door looked very corporate and uninviting (and I was not far enough away to see the giant red Kellogg’s sign on the top of the building!)….
My curious nature led me up a few flights of stairs. At the top, I found an astonishingly huge 2,000 square foot cereal cafe and lounge overlooking Union Square.
This place, my friends, is an instagrammer’s dream. There is cereal themed art on every wall and Kellogg’s knick knacks lining the shelves amongst the seating areas. The counter bar is bright and clean.
Of course, there is plenty of cereal on hand. Load up on your favorite bowl, or pick up a pop-tart, eggo sandwich, or coffee.
I loved the hammock chairs that overlooked Union Square park. Very coveted seats, I imagine!
I was on my way to dinner, so I did not stop for a bowl of Raisin Bran (my personal favorite), but I did pick up a box of limited edition Unicorn cereal for my 4- and 7-year old girls. It is only available at Kellogg’s NYC!
The cereal was a bit sweet for their tastes, but we really enjoyed playing the “What’s Your Unicorn Name?” on the side of the box. I’m happy to re-introduce myself: “Emerald Snowflake Dream!”
I am really happy I stopped by Kellogg’s NYC and would bring any visitor – young or old – to enjoy the nostalgia. But, to be honest, I am not sure how this place will stay afloat. Could the profits from cereal and coffee cover the rent on this massive space overlooking Union Square? Or, will the Instagram community offer enough coverage to make it worth Kellogg’s while? The space is available to for private event rentals, so perhaps there are a lot of companies interested in this option! This place would be so fun for a morning breakfast meeting, no?
Hop on over to Kellogg’s NYC while its still relatively under the radar and full of good childhood memories.
